(Characteristics continued)

Non-healing Acute Wound evolving to a Chronic Wound

Wound bed is clean but as inflammation evolves, proteolytic activity increases

Chronic Wound with Chronic Inflammation

Clean unhealing Stage 3 Pressue Ulcer

Wound healing has ceased.  Consider placement of a tissue engineered wound matrix to close wound and add matrix components

Chronic Diabetic Foot Ulcer

No evidence of healing after three months.  Wound is full thickness with surface exudates.  Consider removal of exudates and placement of a tissue engineered wound matrix to close wound and add matrix components.  Non-weight bearing should continue to avoid any pressure.

Chronic Wound on BK Amputation Stump

The non-healing wound is characterized by inflammation, poor granulation tissue, no matrix in wound base, devitalized tissue on edges.  Consider debridement, then placement of a tissue engineered wound matrix like Oasis® to close the open wound and add matrix components.
