Wound
contraction is the process whereby open wounds
close by movement of the wound edges (not just
epithelium) towards the center of the wound.
The mechanism of the contraction which shrinks
the wound is the generation of forces in the
contractile elements of the fibroblasts
towards the center of the wound. With
fibroblast contraction, collagen and
proteoglycan is secreted essentially cementing
the new tissue in place. |
