There are also two
distinct itch responses. The first is an itch that is well
localized to the site of the stimulus and persists only
briefly after the stimulus is removed.
The second itch is
a diffusely localized
area surrounding a site of stimulus that does not itch
spontaneously but responds if intense itching when subjected a
minor stimulus like the touch of clothes, warmth or movement.
This is known as
itch skin and is a well described form of itch in the healed
burn wound.
The situation is
analogous to pain of the site of a pin prick and the pain
sensation, called hyperalgesia if the surrounding skin is to touch.
